Intro

Activisme is an educational web app. Our mission is to educate, encourage critical thought and engage Gen-Z to become social activists.

The goal of Activisme is simple, to give kids the skills to become activists for whatever they are passionate about. We do this by encouraging students to:

  1. Learn: Activisme accurately informs kids on various social justice topics in order to arm them with the strength of factual information.

  2. Think: This knowledge then allows kids to be able to have the information to form their own thoughts on these subjects. Activisme encourages students to think critically and reflect within the context of the four international standards of Social Justice Education: “identity,” “diversity,” ”justice,” and “action.”

  3. Act: Once students have gained knowledge on the subject, and reflected to develop their own opinions, Activisme encourages students to act on the opinions they have formed. No matter what the child’s political views are, this action comes in the form of activism. Activisme is there to get kids to do, not to tell them what to do or how to do it.

The app was developed for teachers looking to educate their students aged 10-14 about activism. Although it was originally developed with this age group in mind, it can be adapted through lesson plans to cater to other members of the Gen-Z audience.

Activisme takes students on a journey around the world through an educational, story-telling, web game. Throughout this journey, we teach students about young social activists with a range of captivating content. The content details stories of young activists from the first person point of view, allowing the student to hear about the activist’s situation and choices directly from them. These first-person stories focus on the small acts of activism that lead to larger triumphs.

Throughout we encourage kids to think critically about these acts and their own community by alternating between passive and active learning. All of which is developed to allow the gap between the student’s and the activist’s world to be closed, and empathy and understanding between the two to be developed.

Activisme’s goal is to get kids to engage with the issues underlying these stories. The objective being, the student will apply these lessons of activism to their own world, emboldening them to think critically of the society around them and in turn inspire them to take on their own cause(s).
